Natural disasters and public procurement corruption from around the world
October 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Held on 7 October, Mihaly Fazekas (Scientific Director, Government Transparency Institute) and Marko Klasnja (Associate Professor, Georgetown University) analyse data from more than 3,000 municipalities and 2.5 million contracts across seven countries and four continents (2012–2025) to assess how disaster scale, existing corruption risks, institutional arrangements and sectoral differences influence outcomes. They present evidence showing how stronger transparency and scrutiny of disaster‑related spending can help reduce corruption.
